Stables Visit Photography

Stable Visit Photography Living History

In Equestrian, Recent Event by mike weeks

A stable visit photography session with a difference. Not so much Fine Art Portrait Photography, more Actors head shot. Nigel is a Living History presenter, in this case as a Dorset Infantry Officer. An Officer of WW1 period would have ridden a horse and therein was the challenge. Nigel is not a rider, so a suitable mount was sought and that was Finn who played his part fantastically.

The first part of any yard visit ifs for all parties to get to know each other which allows for a relaxed session. First shot therefore was Finn in the stable and Nigel outside, looks like they were soon getting on.

Stable & Yard Visit Photography

Actors head shot with a difference

Having a great location for any equestrian photography always helps. For this set of images the stables look period, well we did hide a few bits. Photoshop can also be a great time machine when needed. So on to step 2 and bring Finn out of the stables. These two seem to have developed a relationship very quickly.

Now for the exciting bit. Nigel wanted some photographs astride the horse. Finn was so relaxed that we were able to get a number of shots.

With an Yard Visit Photography the intention would be to make use of what is available. We are also aiming to provide a variety of shots. Normally this would also include outfit changes.

For this session it was the challenge of the novice rider that was overriding. We could have made the images look period by use of Black & White or sepia, something we can do for re-enactment photography.

We felt however that the images looked right as they were. The aim was to portray an Officer of the Local Dorset Regiment and I think we achieved our aim. Don’t forget our stable visits and fine art equestrian portraits.
